Ambience is a candleholder, specifically designed for the Grayʼs School of Art pop up shop. Its nature is based upon a strong narrative reflecting the daily changes that occur at Grayʼs. The sandblasted layers in the glass parts tell the story of time and change, the frame acts as a signifier of the architecture and its function mirrors the image of engagement and sensual experience with the building. The design of ‘ambienceʼ is playful, simple and contemporary, enabling the product to be produced in batches as the techniques requires water jet cutting, sandblasting and bending. The slotting design allows for a quick assembly. Ambience uncovers a direct contrast and merge of machine-made and hand-made as it incorporates both techniques.
