A very brief introduction to circular economy by Zero Waste Scotland.
Because I am researching the regional production and tying it with the local economy, I was automatically drawn to circular economy as it provides great example of a much more sustainable and responsible system of creating and consuming products. Moreover, with the push and emphasis on sustainability, ignoring circular economy would also be a great disadvantage for my project as it would not have responded to the world as it is right now. The video above is a very simply introduction to how circular economy works in theory, however, with my project I will aim high and try to find out how is this theory put into practice and try to understand how does creating a product (in my case a piece of furniture) fit into the cycle and how, or if, it affects it in any way. I think this will become much clearer once I start obtaining some data or information about circular economy in the North East and creating possible scenarios.
In this video with Tim Brown is suggesting that designers need to think about the 'circularity' when designing, which I also want to implement once I start creating my actual pieces. I think that it is as important to create something that is visually and aesthetically pleasing as well as using the creative and critical thinking to merge it with the latter, subsequently creating a highly valuable product because the result is beautiful, as well as highly practical.
